In light of the triumphant achievements throughout 2023 – characterized by awards, strategic strides, and amplified exposure – the St. Kitts Tourism Authority eagerly sets its sights on 2024 with an ambitious vision. This encompasses the island’s substantial surge in both international and regional air travel, an unwavering commitment to sustainable tourism, and targeted marketing endeavors to firmly establish St. Kitts as a year-round destination.
The pivotal objectives of 2023 revolved around enhancing airlift and accessibility for travelers. Proudly showcasing significant progress made within the Caribbean and on a global scale, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority achieved notable milestones. Notably, the inaugural flight hosted by St. Kitts and JetBlue in November 2023 from New York City’s John F. Kennedy Airport, offering year-round direct flights three times weekly, marked a significant stride. Successful negotiations and agreements with interCaribbean Airways, Caribbean Airways, Air Canada, and United resulted in expanded routes, larger aircraft, and extended travel seasons, providing unprecedented opportunities for travelers to access St. Kitts.
“2023 has been a pivotal year for the advancement of St. Kitts in the tourism sector,” said Honourable Marsha T. Henderson, Minister of Tourism, International Transport, Civil Aviation, Urban Development, Employment, and Labour. “As we envision 2024, the projections for arrivals, the strength of on-island programming and activations, and the passion of local stakeholders to provide quality and memorable experiences for travellers both returning to the island or experiencing the Kittitian spirit for the first time, the continued growth is reflective of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority’s grit and determination to showcase the unique characteristics of the island.”
In the forthcoming year of 2024, St. Kitts remains at the forefront of the sustainable tourism movement. Beyond being a passing trend, sustainability is intricately woven into the island’s fabric, embraced as a way of life by its inhabitants. It extends beyond ecological preservation to encompass a deep commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage, rooted in the island’s natural landscapes, each narrating a vital story essential to its identity.
“The St. Kitts Tourism Authority has made great strides in strengthening our brand pillars and working synergistically with local stakeholders to target primary markets across the globe to drive destination visibility and interest, thus evidenced by the demand for increased airlift,” said Ellison “Tommy” Thompson, CEO of St. Kitts Tourism Authority. “Now, more than ever before, St. Kitts is open to a larger audience, which will promote cross-cultural exchange, boost the local economy, and allow for St. Kitts to continue work on sustainability and preservation, a core pillar of the island’s ethos.”
Throughout 2023, St. Kitts garnered numerous accolades and awards, including the esteemed Tourism Minister of the Year award for Hon. Marsha T. Henderson by Caribbean Journal. The island also secured placements in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2023 Hot List, Far & Wide’s Reader’s Choice Awards, Travel + Leisure’s Readers Choice Awards, AFAR’s Where To Go 2024, World Travel Awards, and Amex Travel’s Top Destinations of 2024. Furthermore, St. Kitts received three prestigious Viddy Awards, recognizing outstanding video marketing efforts in categories such as “The Art of Limin’ – St. Kitts,” “Make Time For Love In St. Kitts,” and “A Monument to Legacy – Brimstone Hill St. Kitts.”
Despite its size, St. Kitts embodies resilience and success, measuring prosperity not solely through visitor numbers but through the quality of experiences and economic value provided by its tourism sector. By focusing on high-value experiences that resonate with travelers’ desires – like cultural immersion, sustainable adventures, and intimate experiences – St. Kitts continues to invest in creating enduring memories that encapsulate the essence of the island. In 2024, travelers can expect further growth and the development of programs that effectively showcase St. Kitts’ character in meaningful and impactful ways.
