Inside The Hotel With The Best Views In London

Central London views don’t come much better than the Treehouse Hotel. Located behind Oxford Street, a moment from the BBC’s newish headquarters, not only are the surrounding amenities superb—moments from Bond Street, Oxford Street, Soho and theatreland—the rooftop bar and panoramic rooms offer sweeping scenes of London that don’t come often. The sister brand to the US-owned 1 Hotel, the concept here is both modern and refreshing.

What was once an eight-storey tower across from the Langham Hotel is now a young, hip and contemporary central-London Hotel. The aesthetic couldn’t be farther from some of its floral and regency Mayfair neighbours; instead, The Treehouse is pared back and casual—think concrete fittings and tumbling green plants.

There is also a sustainability element. The brand has tried to completely rid itself of single-use plastic and has nearly succeeded. Travel the halls and you’ll find attractive triple-filtered water taps to fill up your glass bottles throughout the night.

Sustainability here isn’t just lip service. There are 95 rooms across six floors, and each one is inspired by nature. Starting with the silver- and fawn-coloured birch trees that shoot through the bathroom design in each room. But again, like the rooftop bar and restaurant, which serves casual Mexican with chatty service, here it is all about the surrounds. Standard rooms feature a cushion perch where you can press your nose up against the floor-to-ceiling windows and gaze across the Jenga blocks that makeup central London. There’s almost no need to ever switch on the gargantuan TV sets.

And now, the hotel is launching a host of new packages, including Move Your Frame, which comprises a one-to-one personal training session with a Frame instructor—one of the city’s most-innovative gyms—as part of the overnight stay. The guest can choose to experience the session in-room, from the 360-degree views at rooftop restaurant Nest, or from nearby Regent’s Park. And beyond the session itself, all guests have access to a series of pre-recorded workout videos from the comfort of their rooms, include HIIT, Barre and balancing Yin yoga.

And if a robust fitness offering isn’t the answer, taking advantage of the hotel’s central location, the team have devised a “staycation in the city” complete with rental bikes on which to explore the capital, and the Treehouse’s retro picnic to enjoy in one of the nearby leafy squares. And for those who prefer to travel by foot, the hotel has also created a guided walking tour.

As for Covid-19, the hotel is approaching the “new normal” with style and panache. All hotel staff wear handmade Liberty-print masks. And all hotel guest receive both washable and disposable masks, disinfectant wipes, gloves and hand sanitiser on arrival.

They have also developed a techy system whereby guests can order their meals with a few simple taps; thus avoiding touching any physical menus, and all crockery, napkins and cutlery are presented sealed in recyclable materials.

And while these few changes may require a moment to get used to, what more incentive is required than enjoying elevated Mexican food while social distancing on the 16th-floor, with all of London at your beck and call.
