VUKOVAR, 17 March, 2023 – The first of the 341 announced cruisers this year has arrived in Vukovar on Friday.
The first cruiser which arrived today was from the Viking company, brought 175 passengers to Vukovar, mostly from the USA, but also from Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain.
They started their journey from Budapest and are traveling towards the Black Sea.
The tourists were welcomed to Vukovar by Vukovar’s deputy mayor Filip Sušac and the director of the Tourist Board of Vukovar, Marina Sekulić, along with the offer of Vukovar domestic products from the “Vrhunsko Vukovarsko” Cooperative.
“We can say with satisfaction that we have had a successful year behind us in terms of river cruising. Last year, 305 cruise ships with 29,607 passengers arrived in our city, and we are also happy with the announcements for this year, when we expect over 340 cruise ships. Today we are here to welcome guests from the first cruise to Vukovar,” Deputy Mayor Filip Sušac pointed out on this occasion and explained that the City of Vukovar has numerous benefits when it comes to river cruising, such as payment of fees for docking cruise ships, payment of tickets to museums, and the arrival of passenger ships also has a positive impact on the hospitality industry.
Director of the Tourist Board of the City of Vukovar, Marina Sekulić, pointed out that when visiting Vukovar, cruise ship tourists visit the center of the city and its baroque ensemble, the Vukovar City Museum, which, in addition to touring the permanent exhibition, also organizes other events such as concerts.
“Since this year, visits have also have organized tours of the Vukovar water tower, and during the visit, tourists get to know the 5,000-year-old Vučedol culture,” explains director Sekulić.
Vukovar has entered the year 2023 with excellent tourism results. Compared to 2020 and 2021, tourism and tourist activities have fully returned.
Compared to 2021, 43.81% more tourist arrivals and 32.75% more overnight stays are recorded in 2022. If we add to that the school excursions that are coming to Vukovar again from April 2022 after the pandemic, arrivals have increased by 243.15%, and overnight stays by 139.97%.
Compared to the record year 2019, the year 2022 also records 5% more overnight stays by tourists in Vukovar.
9 new accommodation facilities were opened (of which 3 are holiday homes) and Vukovar now has 1054 beds.
