A newly renovated Arizona spa resort just ranked in a travel magazine’s 2023 list of the best new hotels in the world.
Mii amo at Enchantment Resort in Sedona’s Boynton Canyon reopened in February after two years and $40 million worth of renovations. Now, Travel + Leisure has ranked it among the world’s 100 best new hotels for 2023 in its annual “It List” published on April 6.
The Sedona resort came in at No. 84.
Mii amo is the only Arizona hotel on Travel + Leisure’s list, where the Peninsula Istanbul was ranked the best new hotel in the world. The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad in Manhattan, was the highest ranked U.S. hotel at No. 3.

Travel + Leisure’s editors highlighted Mii amo, a 34,000-square-foot resort first built in 2001, for how its spaces are designed around Sedona’s natural environment. They praised the hotel’s architects, Gluckman Tang, whose projects include the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Prado Museum in Madrid.
The connection with the natural world is so apparent at Mii amo, “during a yoga class, you can capture a mirrored reflection of canyons or get a framed view of a manzanita tree from a casita courtyard,” according to Travel + Leisure’s summary of the hotel.
Mii amo’s strong emphasis on wellness impressed the magazine’s editors as well. They cited not only the ancestral stone massages and sound bath healings at the spa, but also the natural and fresh food prepared at the resort’s Hummingbird restaurant.

Mii amo also was named a top wellness getaway
Travel + Leisure’s 2023 It List also broke down the top new hotels into seven categories, including over-the-top resorts, beach hotels and affordable luxury.
Mii amo appeared on the list of the top new wellness getaways for 2023. It ranked No. 2 out of seven resorts, trailing only Sensei Porcupine Creek in Rancho Mirage, California.
It’s not the first time Mii amo was lauded as an outstanding wellness travel destination. It was one of four Arizona resorts named in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2022 list of America’s top 19 destination spas.
