Hong Kong’s return to leisure travel should start with neighbouring parts of mainland China once a retreat of Covid-19 allows borders to reopen, according to a top tourism official in the city.

Tourism Board executive director Dane Cheng Ting-yat said its aim was for travel in both directions to resume first with the mainland Chinese city of Shenzhen, before restoring links with Guangzhou and further expanding into the Greater Bay Area, an economic zone comprising Hong Kong, Macau and nine cities in Guangdong province.

N.J. coronavirus quarantine travel list shrinks for 1st time. Update includes 31 states and territories.

New Jersey dropped five states from its coronavirus quarantine travel advisory and didn’t add any new ones to the list Tuesday, leaving the total number of states and territories considered COVID-19 hotspots to 31.

Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Maryland and Montana were removed from the list of states that requires a self-quarantine that New Jersey joined with New York and Connecticut. It’s the first time in eight weeks that a state or territory hasn’t been added to the travel advisory.

People traveling from those locations — including residents returning home — are being asked to voluntarily self-quarantine for 14 days and to seek a coronavirus test after arriving.

“The self-quarantine is voluntary, but compliance is expected,” reads guidance on New Jersey’s website for the travel advisory. New York has threatened fines for non-compliance, but New Jersey has not taken that approach.

The quarantine applies to any state with a positive test

Five states removed from New York’s travel quarantine list, one territory added

New York removed five states from mandatory quarantine orders for travelers from areas with high spread of the coronavirus, as it marked its 18th straight day of positive testing levels falling below 1%, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Tuesday.

The states removed from the “travel advisory” list are Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Maryland and Montana. The U.S. territory of Guam was added to the list.

The changes leave 31 states or territories on the list. The action came as the number of new cases of COVID-19 have dropped in some areas as officials adopt mandatory mask-wearing measures and reverse moves such as opening bars and indoor dining.

States/regions in red are included on New York’s travel advisory list as of Aug. 25, 2020. Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, not pictured, are also on the list.
